30 stremma of land burnt in Kalafationes - man facing charge of arson by negligence

CORFU. The fire has been contained according to the Fire Service.
Thirty stremma of land was burnt in Kalafationes. The firefighting planes stopped flying after 18:00 and the fire is considered to have been contained. There are small fires burning at various spots but the main front is very small.
Police investigated a resident for arson by negligence (witnesses said that he had been cutting wood with a chain saw and sparks from the saw probably started the fire). He was taken to appear before the Prosecutor and released after having been told that he will stand trial.
The fire broke out in Briamaki, Kalafationes yesterday and 10 firefighters in 5 vehicles and a ground unit were sent to fight it along with 4 PZL planes, a Canadair plane and a helicopter as well as Municipal water tanks.
