Minister for Tourism meets with British Ambassador

ATHENS. They discussed issues arising from the Thomas Cook collapse, the repatriation of British tourists which is ongoing at the moment and other matters such as Brexit and bilateral relations.
The Minister for Tourism Haris Theoharis met with Kate Smith, British Ambassador in Greece yesterday.
During their meeting Mr. Theoharis and Ms. Smith discussed issues arising from the Thomas Cook collapse, the repatriation of British tourists which is ongoing at the moment and other matters such as Brexit and bilateral relations.
Following the meeting Mr. Theoharis said, "We had a very good and productive discussion with our country's good friend the British Ambassador to Greece. We discussed the operation to repatriate British tourists which is ongoing at the moment as well as other matters such as Brexit and bilateral relations.
The main topic today, of course, was the financial collapse of Thomas Cook and how it affects both our country and Britain as well as the immediate measures that have been taken to deal with it."
Ms. Smith said, "Our priority is the large-scale repatriation operation. Since yesterday 17,000 tourists have arrived from Britain and they have to return within the next two weeks from 13 different parts of Greece.
I would like to stress that the aircraft needed for the operation have been secured. The British Civil Aviation Authority, which has undertaken this huge operation, is in contact with the hotels with Thomas Cook holiday packages and has told them that the accommodation costs for customers affected by the bankruptcy have been covered."
