CORFU. The annual ceremony went ahead despite the downpour.

A Serbian delegation and representatives from Corfu local authority attended the annual ceremony at the Serbian Mausoleum on Vidos Island.

At this year's event the Serbian Government was represented by Zoran Djordjevic, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy, along with Health Minister Zoran Loncar and Deputy Minister for Employment Nenad Neric. Also present was the Serbian representative in the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency, Milorad Dodik.

A significant page in Serbian history was written in Corfu. In April 1916 there were 150,000 Serbian soldiers and civilians on the island, who had been transferred there between 18 January and 21 February by allied ships sailing from Avlona in Albania.

The care received and the warm relations with the local population contributed to the spectacular recovery of the Serbian army.

The help received from the Corfu people is one of the most important reasons for the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples that has existed since then.

In memory of those who lost their lives, the Mausoleum & Ossuary was built on Vidos in 1936 and Corfu Municipality created the Serbian Museum in Mousoxidou St..
