CORFU. At yesterday΄s emergency meeting of the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Council Mayor Meropi Ydraiou said that she considered that locals won΄t have to pay extra for the transportation of waste to Kozani.

When she was asked about the recent decision of the Western Greece and Western Macedonia Decentralised Administrations she said that waste management is paid for by the reciprocal taxes as has been done up to now. "But instead of it covering management in the region it will now also cover the transportation out of the region."

Ms. Ydraiou said: "We will know the exact figures when we get the approval from the Hellenic Single Public Procurement Authority, which will set the total amount. We have sent the data and approval will be given for an amount and time period, after which we will be able to calculate the cost per ton. When the budget is calculated we will be able to see how much will come from the taxes from the four municipalities and from the Ionian Regional Administration."
