UTRECHT. The annual Utrecht trade fair ΄Vakantiebeurs΄ opened on 15 January and continues until the 19th.

The Ionian Islands Region is participating in the Vakantiebeurs 2020 International Tourism Fair in Utrecht.

The exhibition takes place every year between 15 and 19 January and this year appointments have been made with tourism professionals (tour operators, tourist organisations, agencies and journalists) at the Ionian Islands stand.

The Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa is at the exhibition in the Netherlands and has stressed repeatedly how much effort is being put into the development of tourism with close collaboration between all those involved and the Regional Administration so that the Ionian Islands can be promoted in the best possible way.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Lefkada Andreas Ktenas is also at the Utrecht exhibition as Lefkada is a featured destination at Vakantiebeurs 2020.

It is Holland's largest exhibition and in 2019 there were over 105,000 visitors. This year it celebrates its 50th anniversary and there will be lots of surprises for visitors on 19 January.

Ms. Rodi Kratsa made the following statement: "Our presence and active participation here demonstrates the importance we place on the promotion of the Ionian Islands internationally and especially in the Dutch market, which has always shown an interest in our islands. It is also an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest developments and public and professional trends so that we can plan policies that are in line with the latest trends such as themed tourism. In our meetings we present the Region's broad policy regarding issues such as waste management, road safety, beach accessibility, clean seas etc. We will come away from the exhibition with useful experiences and ideas which enable us to continue our work and be even better organised at exhibitions."

As a featured Greek destination, Lefkada was promoted at a special event yesterday afternoon. There were promotional videos of the island, visitors had the opportunity to ask questions and there were local Lefkada products on display. At the end of the promo event visitors also had the chance to taste other Ionian delicacies.

There was also a prize draw for a trip to Meganisi - including flight and accommodation - for which the Regional Tourist Department had secured sponsors.

The participation of the Region in the exhibition is considered to have been successful as are the contacts that Ms. Kratsa is making with important tourist professionals, organisations and journalists in the international market and especially that of the Netherlands.
