CORFU. There are serious deficiencies in the study, which requires to be updated before the auction.

The auction for the Tria Gefyria - Vrioni bypass  a project plagued, like most in Corfu, with a long history - faces a new delay.

The issue was discussed at the meeting of the Regional Council on Sunday, prompted by a question from the head of the Anasa party, Theodoros Galiatsatos.

While the outgoing Regional Governor, Rodi Kratsa, had announced that the auction would take place by the end of the summer of 2023, with the General Secretary of the Ministry of Development ESPA programme, Dimitris Skalkos, even visiting the site for the new road's delineation, the new Regional Governor, Yiannis Trepeklis, revealed that the study has serious deficiencies.

No hydraulic study

Citing information received from the third consultant, he initially mentioned the lack of a hydraulic study, which is considered absolutely necessary given the location of the project, next to Halikiopoulos Lagoon.

He then highlighted the lack of junctions to alleviate traffic congestion. "Without the junctions, the problem will simply be moved 500 meters further along," the Regional Governor said.

Expropriations

He also referred to the expropriations which include one residence and a large business, while there are undeveloped areas that can solve the problem without the need to intervene in buildings.

However, as Yiannis Trepeklis stated, the bypass project has already been included in the new ESPA Programme and the funding is not at risk. Once the necessary additions and corrections are made, he estimated that the project will be ready for auction.
