Meropi Ydraiou tells Tourism Ministry: Some people are sacrificing public health for short-term profit

CORFU. The Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Mayor has criticised the anti-social practice of continued short-term lets during the crisis that the country is going through due to coronavirus.
Ms. Ydraiou contacted the Minister of Tourism and the Civil Protection and Tourism Deputy Ministers about the problem and urged them to take immediate measures.
Statement from Meropi Ydraiou:
"The only priority at the moment is the health of the public. It is for this reason that almost all of the economic and social activities in the country have been suspended.
I consider it completely unacceptable that, whilst hotels and tourist accommodation have suspended operations and we are in the middle of a pandemic, people are allowed to rent properties in Corfu to foreigners.
For the sake of short-term profit, there are some who are sacrificing everything, including people's health.
Today, I contacted the Minister of Tourism, Haris Theoharis, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Manos Konsolas and the Civil Protection Deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias to put the matter to them and request that immediate measures be taken against this anti-social practice.
I also asked them to look into measures to ban flights to and from Greece until the situation improves. The Minister and the two Deputy Ministers assured me that within 24 hours they will take measures to deal with this practice."
