CORFU. For the first time in its history, the ΄Old΄ Philharmonic Society will perform at the Duomo.

A Historic Collaboration! The 'Old' Philharmonic Society meets the Catholic Metropolitan Church of Corfu in a solemn two-day Easter concert event!

Recent developments regarding the (non) operation of the Municipal Theatre have created a chain reaction affecting the smooth scheduling of many of the island’s cultural organisations’ Easter events, as the available venues suitable for concerts are limited and the time frame for action is extremely tight.

For the Corfu Philharmonic Society, however, “every cloud has a silver lining,” as even a negative situation can lead to something positive, hopeful, and beneficial!

For the first time in its history, the Philharmonic will be hosted under the welcoming dome of the historic Sacred Catholic Metropolitan Church of Saints James and Christopher (Duomo). The symbolism is deep and manifold, reinforcing the ties that connect the 'Old' Philharmonic with the island’s Catholic community. The band’s presence at the Duomo is a great honour for the Corfu Philharmonic Society.

Warm thanks are owed to the Catholic Archbishop of Corfu, Zakynthos, and Cephalonia, Georgios Altouvas, as well as to the parish priest of the Metropolitan Church, Father Mario Rigos. Without their support and the gracious acceptance of our request, these concerts would not have been possible. Their openness to collaboration and the joy they share—which we fully embrace—is both moving and commendable.

Due to this year’s particular circumstances, the band will present two distinct devotional concerts on separate days, featuring a programme exclusively of religious, solemn, and grand marches inspired by the traditions of Holy Week in Corfu.

The concerts will take place on Thursday, April 2, and Friday, April 3, at 9:00 p.m., with free admission.
