CORFU. The request is from Corfu MP Dimitris Biagis, due to the suspension of operations at Corfu Airport, because of works.

The PASOK–KINAL MP for Corfu has addressed a letter to the President of EKAB (Ambulance Service), Georgios Haralambous. (from the announcement)

The planned suspension of operations at Corfu Airport further exacerbates the situation and heightens residents’ sense of insecurity. This is particularly concerning given that, despite assurances received in similar cases in the past, we have witnessed patient transfer incidents involving extreme hardship, placing at risk the lives of individuals who required immediate medical care at tertiary hospitals on the mainland.

It is therefore necessary to develop a new, updated air ambulance plan for the region, taking into account these new conditions and minimising the risks faced by the residents of our islands. Within this framework, I request that you reconsider the permanent stationing of a helicopter at Corfu Airport for the critical fourteen-day period during which the “Ioannis Kapodistrias” Airport will be closed, as well as the reactivation of the air-medical evacuation base in Aktio, which is essential for the entire Ionian region.
