Construction of DEDDIE substation in Spianada put on indefinite hold
CORFU. The matter is entering a phase of consultations between DEDDIE and the Municipality.
The project to construct the new DEDDIE substation in Spianada is at a critical junction, as work has been suspended indefinitely. Although the project was already in the implementation phase, the reaction of the Municipal Authority regarding the selected location is leading it into a new phase of negotiations.
The Municipality has expressed its opposition to the specific site and is expected to propose alternative locations for the installation of the substation. The matter is now entering a round of consultations between DEDDIE and the Municipality, with two possible scenarios for the future of the project:
Change of location: If a new site is selected, the project will enter a time-consuming process. New permits will be required from the Ministry of Culture and the Central Archaeological Council (KAS), which implies a significant delay in the completion of the infrastructure.
Retention of the original site: If, within the framework of the consultations, the Municipality is persuaded and ultimately approves the original location, work will resume immediately and the project will proceed according to the original timetable.
