ATHENS. The measures will mainly be in effect on Tuesday, March 24, and Wednesday, March 25.

The Hellenic Police announces the implementation of increased road safety measures throughout the country ahead of the March 25th celebration, with the main goal of ensuring the safe movement of the public and preventing traffic accidents. The measures will mainly be in effect on Tuesday, March 24, and Wednesday, March 25, and are part of the strategic plan to improve road safety. An enhanced presence of the Traffic Police is planned across the road network, with increased checks at high-risk locations, at the entrances and exits of major urban centres, as well as in passenger transport hubs such as airports, ports, and stations. Traffic measures will also be implemented in areas where parades and events take place, while traffic officers will manage traffic at key intersections and toll stations to facilitate drivers.

Particular emphasis will be placed on recording dangerous violations, such as driving under the influence of alcohol, excessive speed, use of mobile phones, failure to use seat belts or helmets, improper overtaking, and misuse of the emergency lane. Additionally, the suitability of vehicles will be checked, including tyres and technical inspections, as well as the validity of drivers’ licences.

During the period, traffic restrictions will apply to trucks over 3.5 tons on major road axes of the country, at specific hours, both during the outbound and return travel of the public.

Exceptions are provided for emergency vehicles, transport of perishable goods, public utility vehicles, and other special categories. The Hellenic Police urges drivers to comply with the Highway Code, to check their vehicles before travelling, and to act responsibly, stressing that road safety is a collective responsibility.
