A fire that broke out Monday evening at a bulky-waste storage facility in the Temploni area sparked concern among local residents.

The firefighting crews responded immediately, resulting in the fire being quickly contained. However, the Fire Service remains on full alert due to the risk of flare-ups.

A significant firefighting operation was deployed to tackle the blaze, including six fire engines, an EMODE wildfire-response team, two 10-ton water tankers from Central Corfu Civil Protection, two support pick-up vehicles, and an earthmoving machine used to throw soil and establish containment lines.

According to reports, no lives were at risk and no inhabited areas were threatened. However, one firefighter suffered respiratory issues after inhaling dense smoke. He was taken by ambulance to hospital as a precaution to receive first aid and ensure his well-being.
