CORFU. The inspection was carried out by a Civil Aviation Authority aircraft and took more than two hours to complete.

The annual operational and certification check of Corfu’s radio navigation aids was carried out on Thursday, July 24, as announced on social media by the president of the Civil Aviation Authority Employees Union, Dimitris Roussos. He stated the following:

"A full day today, with the annual aerial inspection for the proper operation and certification of Corfu’s radio navigation aids. For over two hours, the specially equipped Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority aircraft flew along a predefined route, checking the accuracy of the data provided to aircraft systems.

On a day particularly saturated with air traffic, air traffic control cooperated flawlessly with the colleagues conducting the inspection, ensuring that there were no disruptions or delays to the dozens of scheduled flights taking place during the procedure."

Enimerosi contacted Dimitris Roussos, who spoke to us about the process and the importance of the inspection.

He explained, "the aids must be certified almost annually, on specific dates. If the inspection doesn't take place, we cannot use them."

This could cause problems—**especially during the summer months when flight frequency increases—since without certification, fewer paths would be available for aircraft to approach Corfu.

The procedure is time-consuming, because the aircraft conducting the inspection must make repeated approaches to check each of the two transmitters included in each radio aid. It must then provide the necessary corrections in order for the equipment to be certified.

The cost of this inspection is covered by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority.
