CORFU. The project was primarily funded by the “PHILODIMOS II” programme with an amount of €100,000, while the remaining €33,324.80 was covered by the Municipality’s own funds.

(Central Corfu Municipality) The urban infrastructure project involving the supply, construction, and installation of 36 new public transport shelters has been completed and is now operational, enhancing residents’ daily commutes and improving public services.

The contractor for the project was the company TOP VISION Ltd., which was selected through a competitive tendering procedure and undertook full implementation, from supply to installation and commissioning of the shelters.

The project for the replacement and creation of new Urban KTEL bus stops was included in 2021 in the “PHILODIMOS II” funding programme of the Ministry of the Interior. It provided for the replacement of old and worn shelters, as well as the installation of new ones at selected locations where no relevant infrastructure previously existed. Works began in 2024, and by the end of 2025 the majority of the stops had been installed and put into operation.

The total contract budget amounted to €133,324.80 (including 24% VAT). The project was primarily funded by the “PHILODIMOS II” programme with €100,000, while the remaining €33,324.80 was covered by the Municipality’s own resources.

Features

Under the contract, the following were installed:

  • 15 Type A shelters, fully enclosed and equipped with a standard-size bench, placed on pavements wider than 2.70 metres.

  • 21 Type B shelters, without side panels and with a narrower seat, ensuring unobstructed pedestrian movement on narrower pavements.

Of the total number of shelters, 26 replaced older structures, while 10 were installed at stops where, until now, no infrastructure existed to protect passengers from weather conditions.

The new shelters are equipped with standalone photovoltaic panels, LED lighting, and USB charging points. They also feature electronic displays showing the time and variable messages, providing passengers with real-time information. Their design has been adapted to meet the needs of persons with reduced mobility.

In cases where shelters were placed at locations without any prior infrastructure or pavement, the necessary works will be carried out by the Municipality’s services.
