CORFU. The Ionian Islands Regional Authority took part in a tourist exhibition in Sweden.

(Ionian Islands Regional Authority) With a central focus on attracting high-income travellers and strengthening tourism flows outside peak months, the Ionian Islands Region participated in the international exhibition Senior Festivalen, which was held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from April 21 to 22. Senior Festivalen is one of Sweden’s leading international exhibitions, dedicated exclusively to active travellers over the age of 55 who seek quality destinations and authentic experiences.

The Region’s participation focused on promoting the Ionian Islands as ideal destinations for the demanding audience of the Silver Economy. This is a targeted strategic choice aimed at visitors who have both the financial means and the time flexibility to travel during the off-season, investing in quality, safety, and authenticity.

The main pillars of the promotion included:

Economic Potential and Silver Travellers: Attracting visitors seeking upgraded hospitality services, cultural routes, and personalised travel experiences.

Priority on the Off-Season Period: Highlighting the mild climate and tranquility offered by the Ionian Islands outside the summer season, making them attractive to an audience that avoids mass tourism and seeks meaningful engagement with the destination.

Culture and Infrastructure: Showcasing the historical heritage and high level of services that ensure comfort and familiarity for Scandinavian visitors.

During the exhibition, there was a large visitor attendance, with the public showing great interest in the Ionian Islands. Targeted meetings were also held with leading Swedish tourism stakeholders and representatives of specialised media (the possibility of organising familiarization trips—press trips—was explored).

The discussions focused on developing new partnerships that will enhance visitor numbers during low-demand months, leveraging the Swedish market’s trend toward quality getaways in spring and autumn.

The organisation and coordination of the Ionian Islands Region's presence were handled by the Head of Tourism of the Regional Unit of Corfu, Giorgos Papavlassopoulos.
