15 engineers to assess Old Town’s structural integrity
CORFU. The Corfu branch of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) is forming working groups to assess and evaluate the structural resilience of buildings, networks and critical infrastructure against earthquakes and other natural disasters.
The Corfu branch of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) is undertaking a comprehensive assessment of the Old Town’s resilience to earthquakes and other natural disasters, seeking 15 qualified engineers to staff the working groups of the “PROTEAS” programme.
TEE Corfu has published a special call for expressions of interest for the sub-project “Identification and Assessment of the Structural Vulnerability of Corfu Old Town,” which forms part of the wider project “Local Adaptation Plan to Climate Change and Natural Disasters, with a Focus on Corfu Old Town – PROTEAS.”
The initiative involves an extensive technical assessment, of particular importance for a historic urban fabric characterised by its age, high density and complex construction features. The scope extends beyond the buildings themselves. Land uses, critical infrastructure and networks will be examined, the main categories of buildings and their characteristics will be identified and, most importantly, their structural vulnerability to earthquakes will be assessed.
At the same time, the vulnerability of networks and infrastructure to natural disasters will be investigated, providing a more comprehensive picture of the Old Town’s weak points and the consequences that could result from a major natural event.
The sub-project comprises five work packages and 17 deliverables, ranging from administrative support and coordination to the analysis of land uses, critical infrastructure and building categories, as well as the assessment of the vulnerability of buildings and networks.
The working groups will include civil engineers, architects, surveyors, spatial and urban planning engineers, electrical engineers, computer engineers and mechanical engineers. A total of 15 proposals will be selected, with the successful candidates engaged under contracts for specific projects. The selection will be carried out by a three-member Evaluation Committee.
The total budgeted remuneration for the contracts amounts to €297,500, allocated in accordance with the approved Technical Data Sheet for the sub-project. The project is funded by the “Ionian Islands 2021–2027” programme, under the priority concerning environmental protection, sustainable development and tackling climate change.
Interested candidates can submit their applications and the required supporting documents online, by post or to the Secretariat of TEE Corfu at 13 Alexandras Avenue. The deadline is Monday, 31 August 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
The project’s scientific coordinator is civil engineer Giorgos Voulgaris.
