CORFU. The Director, Mr. Aggelopoulos, stressed that the presidents and associations were received, but those attending the meeting wanted the presence of ‘the entire crowd that had gathered’.

In a joint statement, the teachers' unions ELME and SEPE and the Central Corfu Parents’ Association said that the Regional Director of Education refused to meet with them, as well as with parents who took part in a protest on Wednesday, September 17, outside the Regional Directorate of Education. They noted that he also declined to provide information on “when their children would finally begin classes.”

“The Regional Director’s behaviour toward teachers and parents is getting worse with time,” the groups added. “We would hate to believe that this has anything to do with the upcoming appointments of education officials and his attempt, in light of those appointments, to prove his ‘credentials’ to the government.”

Enimerosi contacted Mr. Aggelopoulos, who stressed that the presidents and associations were received, but those attending the meeting wanted the presence of ‘the entire crowd that had gathered’ not only the presidents—something he said was not feasible.

“My door is always open,” he stated. “The presidents and boards of all associations can meet with me at any time. But when there are 40 or 50 people in the room, it’s impossible to have a productive discussion.”
