Museum of Asian Art: Thematic Tour — “One Monument, Many Stories: A Journey Through the Palace in Time”

CORFU. Friday 26 and Saturday 27 September for schools and the general public.
Under the general theme “Architectural Heritage – Bridging the Past with the Future”, the European Heritage Days will take place from 26 to 28 September, inviting the public to museums and archaeological sites across the country.
Corfu Museum of Asian Art of is once again joining the celebration with the thematic tour “One Monument, Many Stories: A Journey Through the Palace in Time”, on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 September, open to both school groups and the general public. Participants will explore the multifaceted history of the emblematic Palace of St. Michael and St. George, from its construction to the present day.
The tour will first highlight aspects of the palace’s architecture and decoration, designed and carried out by the British engineer Sir George Whitmore in collaboration with the Corfiot sculptor Pavlos Prosalentis and local workshops. It will then focus on the palace’s history and its changing uses over time — from serving as the seat of the Order of St. Michael and St. George and the residence of the first British High Commissioner Sir Thomas Maitland, to its present role as the Museum of Asian Art.
