Removal of waste from Goggakis begins

On Thursday night, the issues regarding the licensing of the trucks were resolved, and the collection of waste began at the Goggakis company. Heavy machinery, working under floodlights, started separating the inert materials from the biological waste and loading the latter onto trucks for transport outside of Corfu.

Their destination was kept a closely guarded secret from the very start of the meeting chaired by the Secretary-General for Solid Waste Management, Mr. Grafakos. The representatives of the Corfu authorities also maintained this confidentiality, appearing to understand how beneficial it could prove to be for the recipients who will ultimately be used.
