CORFU. The educational programme ‘Getting to Know the Old Town of Corfu’ continues.

The Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality educational programme “Getting to Know the Old Town of Corfu,” is continuing for 5th and 6th grade primary school pupils and all grades of junior high school.

Through an educational walk in the Old Town of Corfu, pupils from Corfu learn about the concept of World Heritage and become familiar with their town through the lens of historical continuity, memory, and culture.

The walk begins at Spilia Gate, one of the entrances to the formerly walled town, passes through the entire Old Town, and concludes at the Monastery of Saint Catherine, which houses the Coordination Office of the Historic Centre, “Corfu Town.” There, pupils take part in a knowledge-based educational game, aimed at fostering an experiential connection with Corfu’s cultural heritage, learning, and love for the town.

The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands would like to extend special thanks to the Regional Directorate of Education and the Regional Director, Petros Angelopoulos, for their cooperation and support.

The Municipality also invites all primary school 5th and 6th grade teachers and junior high school 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade teachers to participate in the programme as part of local history education and educational walks.

The contact details of the programme coordinator, Aliki Katsarou, a specialist in education and the interpretation and presentation of cultural heritage, are available in the information letter sent by the Regional Directorate of Education to all schools in the prefecture.
