Strong winds dislodge section of Municipal Theatre roof
CORFU. Emergency services were swiftly mobilised and Mantzarou Street was closed to traffic.
A new serious structural issue at the Municipal Theatre has emerged after strong winds in the area caused part of the roof structure to come loose.

The Mayor himself revealed the incident in an urgent Facebook post. According to his statement, strong winds tore away the aging and deteriorated roof wall cladding, which was around 50 years old, making immediate safety measures necessary to protect passersby.

According to the Mayor’s update, there was an immediate mobilisation of the authorities. In order to safely remove the hazardous cladding sheets, a temporary traffic closure has been put in place on Mantzarou Street.
The Mayor concluded his social media post with a pointed remark about the condition and maintenance of the public buildings he inherited, writing:
“Decades of accumulated issues are now coming to light one by one…”
