Antipaxos: Tourist boats collide at Voutoumi with 211 passengers on board

ANTIPAXOS. Three people were taken to the Paxos Health Centre as a precaution, while a 56-year-old woman was transferred to Corfu Hospital. The departure of both vessels was prohibited until seaworthiness certificates were provided.
A collision between two commercial tourist boats, carrying a total of 211 passengers, occurred on Tuesday afternoon, August 11, in Voutoumi Bay in Antipaxos, according to a statement from the Hellenic Coast Guard.
The vessels involved were the Lakka Express, carrying 10 people, and the Christina, which had 201 people on board.
The Poseidon Junior, which was nearby, rushed to the scene to assist. It took eight of the 10 people aboard the Lakka Express and transported them to the new port of Paxos. The Lakka Express was also escorted to the port, where it was prohibited from sailing.
The Christina made its own way to the port of Corfu, accompanied by a Coast Guard patrol boat. It was also prohibited from sailing until the required seaworthiness certificates were provided.
According to the Coast Guard, three passengers were taken to the Paxos Health Centre as a precaution, while a 56-year-old woman was transferred to Corfu General Hospital.
No water ingress or marine pollution was reported as a result of the collision. The competent Prosecutor’s Office was notified of the incident, while a preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Port Authorities.
