Municipality requests Piraeus Bank to suspend Desyllas Factory auction for six months

19 Απριλίου 2024 / 14:42

CORFU. Following consultation with Piraeus Bank executives, whom they met in Athens.

Central Corfu Municipality is proceeding with direct negotiations with Piraeus Bank, which has already announced the fourth auction of the former Desyllas factory. During his visit to Athens yesterday, Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos met with bank executives because, although the municipality is interested in acquiring ownership of the property, the possibility of it being "snapped up" by a bidder in the fourth round remains real.

However, the problem of the last three years balance sheets, which are included in the necessary loan conditions, is also real.

As the Mayor stated, following negotiations with the bank, the Municipality submitted a request for a six-month suspension of the auction, in order to secure the time required for the process.

The letter

The letter states, among other things: "The Municipality of Central Corfu, expressing the will of all Municipal political parties and with the consent of the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, declares its interest in acquiring the property of high historical and archaeological interest, the former Desyllas factory. We have already begun negotiations for the bank financing of the purchase. Given that the specific procedures, according to our calculations, will last approximately six months, we request the corresponding suspension of the upcoming auction scheduled for May 15th."
