North Corfu Municipality in Malta for GreenMove Project

CORFU. The GreenMove Project is a European network of cities dedicated to sustainable mobility in rural areas.
The Municipality of North Corfu participated in the second meeting of the GreenMove Project in Malta, which brought together representatives from 16 European countries and took place from June 10 to 13.
This initiative is funded by the European Commission under the CERV-2024 – Network of Towns programme.
The project aims to support the green transition in transport for rural and island areas through innovation, collaboration and citizen engagement. Its goal is to introduce innovative transport solutions, reduce environmental pollution, and enhance the sustainability of rural communities.
The three-day event, organised by the Local Council of Siggiewi, included:
-
Thematic sessions – Discussions with experts on Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Mobility and Energy Efficiency, presenting applicable strategies for rural and island communities.
-
Interactive workshops with Friends of the Earth (FoE Malta), a leading environmental NGO, focusing on sharing best practices in green mobility.
-
Visit to Dar tal-Providenza, a model care home for people with disabilities, highlighting the connection between environmental policy and social inclusion.
-
Strengthening of partnerships between the 17 project partners, opening pathways for long-term collaborations beyond the project’s 18-month duration.
Next Stop: Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
The third meeting of the GreenMove Project is scheduled for October 2025 and will be hosted by the Municipality of Podstrana (Croatia), with a special focus on cross-border cooperation. A significant part of the programme will take place in Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina, expanding and enriching the dialogue around policy recommendations and community-based solutions for the green transition in European rural areas.
