CORFU. The passengers are in good health, while no marine pollution was reported as a result of the incident.
On Saturday afternoon, August 16, a sailing vessel flying the flag of the United Kingdom ran aground in the sea off Sidari. Two people were on board the vessel.
A Coast Guard patrol boat and a speedboat immediately rushed to the scene, locating the sailing vessel resting on sandy shallows.
The refloating operation then commenced with the assistance of a tugboat and a private diver. Once completed, the vessel was towed to Gouvia marina.
The passengers are in good health, and no marine pollution was reported as a result of the incident.
Corfu Central Port Authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, has prohibited the vessel from sailing until a seaworthiness certificate is submitted by the competent authority.
