South Corfu Municipality: Majority party councillors not resigning

CORFU. Deputy Mayor Kavvadias told Enimerosi that the new mayor will be chosen through internal party elections.
Following the resignation of the Mayor of South Corfu, attention regarding the municipality’s administration has shifted to who will succeed him. The municipal councillors of the majority party, after Vassilis Himariotis expressed his intention to resign, had issued a statement declaring their intention to follow the mayor’s example and resign as well—something that would lead to new elections in the municipality. However, it appears that the situation is changing.
Enimerosi contacted Deputy Mayor Kavvadias, who informed us that the municipal councillors will not be resigning. Instead, a new mayor will be elected from within the majority party through internal elections, which are expected to take place within two weeks.
