Coalition of associations pushes back against moorings in Garitsa, demanding protection for historic bay
CORFU. The Garitsa ‘To Alsos’ Association and the Association of Old Town Permanent Residents intervened in the Municipal Council discussion on Garitsa Bay, calling for any plans for moorings or a marina to be excluded and for the area to be designated as a site of historical memory and natural beauty.
Garitsa isn΄t the problem - it΄s a symptom
The controversy surrounding the moorings and the effort to preserve Garitsa Bay as an “open marina” is about more than a cherished waterfront. It raises broader concerns about how much development Corfu can sustain, the growing commercialisation of public space, and whether local people will remain connected to the sea that has long defined who they are.
Garitsa Association insists park is not up for negotiation
CORFU. Following the meeting called by the Chamber of Commerce on the licensing issues affecting businesses in the Garitsa Park, the Garitsa Cultural Association “To Alsos” issued a public statement expressing strong concern over possible initiatives that, in its view, could undermine the area΄s legal protections.
