Garitsa Cultural Association:"Who΄s afraid of the park regulations?"

(Garitsa 'Alsos' Cultural Association) Garitsa “To Alsos” Cultural Association denounces, with anger and indignation, the sudden and unjustified withdrawal of the “Operating Regulations of the Garitsa–Anemomylos Park,” which had been prepared by the municipal services, from today’s session of the Municipal Committee.

The Regulations are the product of extensive consultation, incorporate the Association’s comments, and constitutes a unique shield of protection for the park. Their withdrawal serves interests that want the park unprotected and at the mercy of arbitrariness.

We demand clear answers

We call upon the Mayor to:

1. Answer directly: Was he pressured to withdraw the Regulations prepared by the municipal services? If so, by whom and for what reason?

2. Take responsibility for the decision that leaves the park defenseless.

3. Publicly commit to when he will bring it before the Municipal Committee and the Municipal Council.

Immediate demand

We demand the immediate convening of an extraordinary Municipal Council meeting, with the sole agenda item being the vote on the Regulations prepared by the municipal services. Corfu cannot withstand further delays and evasions.

Why the Regulations are necessary

• They put an end to chaos and arbitrariness.

• They ensure cleanliness, supervision, and safety.

• They protect people with disabilities, children, and families.

• They halt uncontrolled commercial exploitation.

• They provide for strict penalties for damage and pollution.

• They safeguard the park as a lung of life, not as a field of profiteering.

We call upon the residents, associations, and institutions of Corfu to:

• Stand by our side and demand the immediate adoption of the Regulations prepared by the municipal services.

• Denounce any arbitrariness, damage, or pollution.

• Be present at the protests that will follow.

Next steps of the Association

• Submission of an official request for an immediate Municipal Council meeting.

• Organisation of a mass information gathering for residents.

• Public release of the draft Operating Regulations through open access (website, social media, leaflets), so that all citizens can be informed and express their support publicly.
