Residents and municipality agree on measures to protect Garitsa Park

CORFU. A meeting was held between the President and board members of the Residents΄ Association and the Deputy Mayors responsible for the Municipal Unit of Corfu, Commerce, and Daily Life–Green Spaces, along with officials of Central Corfu Municipality.

Municipal representatives and the Garitsa "Alsos" Cultural Association have agreed on a package of measures aimed at protecting Garitsa Park.

According to a statement by the Association’s president, Alexandros Vergis, a meeting was held between the President and members of the Board of Directors and the Deputy Mayors responsible for the Municipal Unit of Kerkyra, Commerce, Daily Life–Green Spaces, along with senior officials of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands.

The discussions followed formal correspondence from the Association and focused on the enforcement of existing legislation, the Management Plan and the Operating Regulations governing the Garitsa Park.

The Mayor was unable to attend due to official commitments but authorised the Deputy Mayors to represent him and report back on the decisions taken.

Following extensive deliberations, the parties agreed on specific measures, including the natural demarcation of 45 square metres per business, maintenance obligations for planted fencing, immediate revocation of permits in cases of unlawful damage to greenery, and the prompt initiation of park surveillance as provided for under the redevelopment plan.

The Association stated it will continue to monitor implementation closely and work institutionally with the Municipality to ensure the protection and enhancement of Garitsa Park.
